When a load misses your margin, you get the rate that would make it work and a line to say on the phone. "I am running 325 empty miles on this one — get me to $1,150 and I will cover it." Better than passing, and better than guessing.
A paid-off truck at 7 mpg and a financed one at 6 with a driver on a higher rate do not break even at the same number. Enter each unit once and its own mpg, upkeep and payment drive the estimate, instead of a fleet average that is wrong for both of them.
What the broker said they need — "flatbed, tarped", "53 reefer", "power only" — is checked against the trailers you actually own. A load you cannot legally or physically haul is flagged while you are still reading the offer, not when the driver is sitting at the shipper.
